Some catching up......

I have been traveling for work more than usual so I haven't had much time for anything lately.

If it isn't a "honey do list" that awaits me when I get off the road, then it is the weather that has prevented me from doing any fishing. Of course like everyone else there are family obligations that must be attended or some yard work that has your name all over it for the weekend.

Most of this has nothing to do with fishing and that is the running theme here lately.

My VP was in town recently and we had a couple of people cancel on us so I called an audible. I asked him what he wanted to do and he said he didn't care. So I suggested since we were near Salem MA we could visit here and get some lunch. It would allow him to witness Salem near peak performance (Halloween of course being peak). As I drove a few more minutes, I remembered that the Ansel Adams show was still being exhibited at the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem. I asked if he was a fan and he said he loved Ansel Adams and would like to see the exhibit and off we went.

It was Columbus Day so the schools were out and so were the crowds. Of course having friends who went to college in Salem, the unfolding show was nothing new to me but he was enjoying the scenery as we made our way to the museum.

As it turned out, this was the last day of the show so it was crowded but it wasn't too bad.

This was not your typical Ansel Adams material because the focus was water thus the name At the water's edge; however, the pictures were transforming.

My brother-in-law and I went fishing last weekend after the state stocked some of the rivers and ponds with trout for the last time this year. He ended up catching a rainbow and I ended up catching his ridicule for the rest of the morning.

Yesterday was Opening Day in MA for pheasant hunting and my brother-in-law and I headed out to begin one of our favorite past-times. There were people who  took off a few minutes before 6:59 A.M. E.T. (official sunrise) and they had dogs with them. It was soon thereafter that we heard the sounds of shot guns piercing the cold October morning air. If it happens again, then a call to the EPO may be in order because they have an advantage with the dog already (not a complaint just a fact).

We decided to turn right to get ahead of the other hunters to see if we could get some birds before they canvassed the entire section that we hunt. This is my brother-in-law making his way toward me.

All the pressure that was being applied by the hunters and their dogs we thought we would head to the water's edge (a little Ansel reference here) and see if the pheasants got pushed down here. Unfortunately, shortly after I shot this picture some hunters shot the pheasants about 75 yards away.

Needless to say we didn't get any birds but we were excited to get out there in the cool fall air and try.

I planned to do some fishing today but the rain put an end to those plans. I am heading to Cape Cod this week for work and I hope to do some fishing down there. I will either go off the beach in Falmouth or the Canal for stripers. I may give those salters one more try if time permits. Now that I think of it there is a MA Wildlife Management Area down there too that gets stocked with pheasants...........

  1. I love Ansel Adams and have several of my favorite prints staring at me while we speak. Good show!
Oh, and the ankle is looking better. Diabetes is no joking matter. Thanks for your concern.

  2. Hi Howard.....I love Ansel Adams too and he is one of my all time favorites.

Glad to hear that the ankle is looking better......I would be down to only two people who regularly comment on my blog if you had let things get out of hand. :)

Looking forward to some of your master pieces that you tie.

  3. Don't know to much of Mr. Adams, but I know a bit about bird dogs and birds. I've had Brittany's all of my life. And there were many times I let other guys in the field hunt behind my dog. Those guys you had the unfortunate chance to meet are jerks, not hunters.
    Sorry Ed about your outing.

    1. Hi Alan.....Ansel Adams' posters are everywhere. They are usually black and white and one of his favorite subjects was Yosemite National Park.

Brittanys are great dogs..............I would love to own one.

As for those guys, I believe you are right because I was talking to another hunter and he has seen them take more than the bag limit.

Geez Alan I wish you lived in MA.............thanks for the sentiments.

We still enjoyed our time afield.
