Combining passions

The water in the nearby rivers is warm and low so that has not worked out for me lately.

The tides have not been cooperating either so that is strike two.

So I bought a bike and I hope to explore local rivers from a different perspective.

Yesterday was my first foray into this adventure and I took a path my oldest told me about. The path runs parallel to the river where I fish frequently.

About a half mile from the beginning of the trail looking backwards.

A bluebird sanctuary to my right from where I stopped.

A welcomed surprise.

A view of the right from the bridge.

A view of the left from the bridge.

The end of the trail is about 50 yards from here.
The other day I was looking at the Orivs catalog and saw a four piece fly rod. I thought to myself at the time I don't have a need for that (pre-bike); however, as I rode along the path yesterday, I envisioned a four piece rod on my back and me casting a fly or two along the river.

As August keeps rolling along, I will be doing some some more scouting and the calling of the four piece rod will keep getting louder.

  1. A mountain bike I hope. Backpack, 4 piece rod, and a bike. A go anywhere combination.

    1. Hi Mark..it is a hybrid and I am kind of regretting the decision because I underestimated the bumps on these trails. I will be getting a better seat this week. Still a great way to travel.

Sorry for the delayed response but we had electrical storms and it knocked out my cable, phone and internet. As of this writing I still have no phone or internet. Also my office is being renovated and is in a shambles so I couldn't go there until now.

    1. Thanks Alan.....sorry the delay but i have been out of internet service since Monday.

I am heading up to Maine next week so I am going to stop by the ORVIS outlet. Any suggestions on the rod?

  3. That's pretty good thinking Mac. If you can't fish, scout out the local waters. I'm on board for a 4-piece setup.

    1. Hey Howard....my internet has been down since Monday and that is the reason for the delayed response.

What are your thoughts for a set (e.g. size, etc.) up to travel via a bike?

      Thanks.

  4. Lately I have been finding new fishing spots by doing a lot of hiking so i see what you got into on the bike. Best of luck on your return with the fly rod.

    1. Hi Savage....my wife and I have been hiking and I find myself stopping (a source for sighs from my wife) at small streams, etc. to scout for fish too. I keep hoping I will find something that Alan fishes but no luck yet.
      Good luck on your scouting.
      Thanks.
How is the stripe bass and blues fishing going?
