I wrote a little piece awhile back about catching a bat. And of course every word is true...I'm a fisherman, I don't lie. http://cofisher.blogspot.com/2010/06/beware-of-fill-in-blank.html
I have caught a bird in flight....I have witness to prove it..got him on the back cast...it certainly loaded up the rod prior to the forecast...I have also managed to catch a boot...got to love the nashua river.
I was bass fishing the shoreline once,I pitched a cast and a well hidden Blue heron took flight as my Rapala whizzed by. It was game on.Finally grabbed him by the beak and untangled the mess!
We watched a video about the Nashua river in bio last week, but that's not the point of my post. Orvis is amazing.... After breaking my rod last weekend my mom sent the rod in to their repair/replacement department on Wednesday. Today during my lunch block I got a notification from the mail room that I had a package from orvis. I literally sprinted across campus to find that the rod had arrived in time or this weekend's adventures. Insanely fast customer service and one thing I will say is despite the somewhat ridiculous prices (although I have a clearance warehouse closer than an retail store... Dirt cheap) I will always get my rods from them because this experience made it all worth those extra dollars.
Greer I am glad you got your rod back quickly. Orvis sure seems like a company that has great customer service.
By the way the bugs are skimming across the water now. I was there early this morning and the bugs started showing up (make sure you have your license on you because the EPO was there around 0630 checking if I had mine). He was a nice guy and he stuck around and we chatted for about five minutes). I stuck with a Wooly Bugger since I seem to be getting hits on that thing.
I had another strike and started bringing him in and the tippet snapped. I didn't snag him like I was bass fishing (I pulled the line that was in my non-casting hand back about six inches firmly). I fumbled somewhat and when I grabbed the line again I must have put to much strain on the line. Lost another fly and fish. I am taking it in stride because I know the time will come. Just making some rookie mistakes that I hope to eliminate eventually.
It is amazing how fast three hours pass when I am casting down there. I was almost late for my tee time at 1015.
I may get back down there this evening and try a micro may fly.
Im going down tomorrow morning... My may flies may not be small enough but wooly buggers sound like they are working! Tough luck with the second fish... Maybe see you down there tomorrow morning?

ReplyDeleteI could relate to the part where you weren't catching fish. That was funny. Thanks for sharing.

ReplyDeleteEd what size tippet are you using? What is the breaking strength?
ReplyDeleteGreer...I am heading to a pond (where the picture for the blog was taken) tomorrow morning to try and break the "losing streak". Good luck tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteMike....the leader is an Umpqua 9' 5x 5lb (100% fluorocarbon). Do you think it is knot failure?
