Let the shows begin.........

For the past several years I have been attending a sportsman show in Worcester MA (woosta if you live here) and with each passing year I have been leaving disappointed. One of the guys at work attends the show as a rep for Daiwa and tells me "that this year will be better than the last". He is 0 for five since I knew he worked the show.

Today after I responded to Howard's post about a dam removal video I noticed that there was a visitor from  the Outdoor Blogger Network. The visitor came from the RI Striper blog that I followed up to the end of the striper season this year. There was a posting about the New England Fishing and Outdoor Expo (Expo) and how the show has changed management hands. The show is from February 8th through the February 10th.

If half of what is posted on their website is true, then it will be like the shows of old. As soon as I finish this posting, I am going to call my brother in law to have him "save the date".

Charlie Moore is one of the seminar speakers this year. I have met him a couple of times over the years and have watched his show in the past. For those of you from outside New England you may not know the "Mad Fisherman" unless you saw him on ESPN years ago or on NBC Sports currently. He is out of his mind but he is living his dream. Also, if you ever wondered what I sound like, then watch his show and you will get an idea.

For others there is the Springfield (MA) Sportsman's Show (Springfield) that will be held from February 21st through February 24th. My brother in law and his cousin always go to this show but I pass because it is a couple of hours from my house and they are as slow as molasses when they go to these shows. I am more like Clark Griswold visiting the Grand Canyon in Vacation when I go to these shows (although I am trying to slow down when walking these shows).

The last show profiled here will be the first one to the area: the Marlboro (MA) Flyfishing Show (Fly-fishing). This show is from January 18th through January 20th. I have gone to this once and that was two years ago. I do plan on attending this year and buying a thing or two.

As for fishing, I am hoping to do some tomorrow since the weather is suppose to be decent (about 30 degrees and sunny).

  1. As you may have guessed, I'm sort of social sort. I don't generally buy much except fly tying stuff that I need. I try to get together with my fishing buddies, see what's new and hob nob with the likes of AK Best, John Gierach, Hopper Juan and all the other celebs that show up. It's fun to grab an autographed book, see a cutie in a bikini modeling the latest fly rod and eating really crappy food. It gets me through the Winter. Enjoy Mac.

  5. I don't usually attend the shows only because i am ice fishing or shooting on those days. This year, if the state of CT doesn't cancel sportsman's shows, I will go.
